12nm Zen+ cores and on track for launch in Q3 2018

As expected, AMD has announced its upcoming 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper HEDT CPUs at the Computex 2018 press conference, putting more pressure on Intel and its earlier announced, and unnamed, 28-core HEDT CPU.

Q3 launch seems likely

During its announcement of the Ryzen Pro 2000 series CPU lineup, AMD provided a few more details on its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series CPUs, saying that these are now sampling.

It even makes Intel Optane interesting

According to a video posted recently online, it appears that it took AMD and StoreMI software to make the Intel Optane shine and pretty much make the experience as best as possible.

Dies are there but can't be enabled

There has been a lot of noise generated regarding the recent discovery that AMD Threadripper CPUs actually have four dies and not two dies and two "substrates" as it was originally believed but, according to AMD's James Prior, these are inactive dies and there is no way to enable them.

NVMe RAID support for X399 comes on September 25

AMD has officially launched its latest SKU for the Ryzen Threadripper lineup, the 8-core/16-thread Threadripper 1900X which promises to bring all the capabilities of the X399 HEDT platform at a more affordable US $549 price tag.
