Apple grabs quarter of mobile PC market

According to a fresh survey out of NPD DisplaySearch, Apple managed to seize 26.6 percent of the mobile PC market in Q4 2011.

Apple shipped 23.4 million MacBooks and iPads to end the quarter with a convincing lead over HP and Dell, which shipped 8.7 and 6.9 million respectively.

However, in netbook shipments Apple ranked fifth, with 4.6 million units. HP led the way with 8.7 million and a 15.5 percent share, while Dell and Acer came in second and third, with 6.7 and 6.6 million units respectively.

Apple still dominates the tablet market and it managed to flog 18.7 million iPads for a 59 percent share. Newcomer Amazon shipped 5.3 million and seized 16.7 percent of the market, while Samsung ranked third with 2.1 million units shipped and a 6.7 percent market share.
