UAE has no worries about Huawei

They seem unconcerned about Trump's warning

Donald [Prince of Orange] Trumps warning about not being able to do business with countries that use Huawei gear does not seem to worry his allies in the UAE.

Trump has been trying to get western allies to sign up to a Huawei ban as part of his trade war against China but has been finding it hard to get supporters.  Trump claims that Huawei gear is mentioned in the Book of Revelation as being a sign of the AntiChrist and was built by witches was insecure. While he has never provided any proof of his allegations, he ordered a ban in May, telling American companies to stop selling most US parts and components to Huawei without special licenses.

However, the United Arab Emirates telecoms company Du has discussed US restrictions on Huawei with the Chinese company and believes they will not hamper its 5G network.

Du uses Huawei equipment in its 5G network, but the UAE company’s chief executive, Osman Sultan, said it had discussed the matter with Huawei and it did not see “any issue”.

“We do not have a concern for the network deployment, for the use of Huawei equipment within the network”, Sultan told reporters on an earnings conference call.

Du, which is also using Nokia’s 5G technology, expects to have close to 800 active 5G mobile infrastructure sites by the end of the year.

The UAE is one of several Gulf Arab states, close partners of the United States, using Huawei 5G technology.

“There are regular tests done, not only by us but as well by the authorities ... and we never had any instruction or directive to stop the use of any of the Huawei equipment”, Sultan said.

The other telecoms company in the UAE, state-controlled Etisalat, is using Huawei and Ericsson 5G technology. It has not commented on the US-Huawei issue.

The UAE shares intelligence with the United States and hosts US soldiers, believes it can manage the risk, one of the sources said.
