Apple teams up with ARM to kill Intel

Tame Apple Press gets ahead of itself

If you believe the Tame Apple Press this week, the Fruity tax-dodging cargo-cult Apple is building an ARM chip which the tame Apple Press claims will kick Intel out of the market.

According to Bloomberg the chip went into development last year so Intel better be getting to surrender its assets now because it is game over.

When looking a little closer at the story the chip in question is hardly going to do that much. It is the same one used to power the MacBook’s god awful Touch Bar feature so it is very low powered.

The chip with the code name T310 will handle some of the computer’s low-power mode functionality and it will be built using ARM tech. But it is hardly going to put the fear of Jobs into Intel.

However, the Tame Apple Press seems to think that powering the touch bar will mean that x86 chips will not be needed so much because functionality is shifted away from the main chip.

Convinced that this is the thin end of the edge and a more advanced Apple-designed chipset for use within Mac laptops will eventually end up with Apple free of Intel for its Mac processors.

You can see how they can make that leap of faith. After all, Apple has used its own A-Series processors inside iPhones and iPads since 2010, and its chip business is one of the Cupertino, California-based company’s most critical long-term investments. After all, if Apple made its own chips it could more tightly integrate its hardware and software functions. It also, crucially, allows it more of a say in the cost of components for its devices. Not that it doesn’t now – just ask Qualcomm.

Actually, no you can’t make this leap of faith at all. It is total bollocks and one of the main reasons why journalists who use Apple Macs should not be allowed to write tech news. Apple’s A-Series are a long way from powering a PC and despite making them for seven years Apple has the good sense to realise it is out of its league in trying to replace Intel as its main supplier, unless it opted for a deal with AMD.

So why write such rubbish? Well because the Tame Apple Press wrote this toilet, Intel shares went down and Apple shares rose. It seems that some people were dumb enough to believe it.
