Texas instruments official
Only yesterday we wrote a piece here about Texas instruments looking into selling its OMAP division and the company was quick to react. The company's comment below completely denies the news as rumor.

Texas instruments PR representatives responded with what appears to be a prepared speech. The statement reads:“We’re aware of recent speculation in the press about the sale of our OMAP business, and want to set the record straight. To be clear, these are rumours, plain and simple. They are not true, and were not started by TI. TI remains committed to our core Wireless business, which encompasses the OMAP applications processors and wireless connectivity solutions. And, we are committed to helping our customers succeed in the marketplace. “

This says it call, OMAP 4 is starting to rack up more and more design wins, including Toshiba's thinner tablet currently in the market as well as many phones. Our contacts at Texas instruments said that OMAP 4460 at 1.5GHz should be shipping this fall, with OMAP 4 4470 clocked at quite impressive 1.8GHz shipping in devices this fall.

OMAP 5 will take a while to hit the market, as this 28nm quad core, hybrid part comes later in 2012 and will compete with many other 28nm chips mainly from Samsung, Qualcomm and Nvidia.

Long story short, OMAP is not for sale.
