One of Apple’s key designers from the Steve Jobs era has signed up to work for the Chinese mobile maker Huawei.

Abigail Brody will be taking up residence at Huawei where she will be its chief user experience designer, which basically means that she will be in charge of the user interfaces for Huawei’s products.

Brody worked with Apple until 2011. She was one of the designers behind the original iPhone, and also helped to design OS X and Apple pro apps like Aperture and Final Cut Pro.

She left Apple to help Pay Pal get its design act together. She became vice president of global design at eBay and PayPal – her exit from there appears to coincide with the splitting off of PayPal from Ebay.

Huawei is building a US design studio to house Brody and her team. Hiring her is seen as a move by the company to get a little more aggressive in its own designs rather than just following trends.
