As the successor to the previously available Trion 1100 and Trion 150 SSDs, the new TR200 SSD series is also Toshiba's entry-level line. Switching from MLC NAND to 3D TLC in order to achieve better price has its drawbacks as it somewhat sacrifices the performance.

Although no precise details were given regarding the new TR200 SSD insides, it all points to the direction that Toshiba is using a TC58NC1010 controller which is pretty much the Phison S11 controller. This is a DRAMless design, which will have some impact on the performance. The controller is paired up with either 256Gb or 512Gb 64-layer BiCS3 3D TLC NAND, depending on the capacity (960GB version with 512Gb NAND).

The new Toshiba TR200 SSD series will offer sequential read and write performance of up to 555MB/s and 540MB/s, in all three capacities. The 4K random read and write performance peaks at up to 82k IOPS and 88k IOPS while the write endurance is rated at 60TBW, 120TBW and 240TBW.

The TR200 series doesn't have any encryption and is backed by a three-year warranty. Due to its design, the TR200 SSD series should be significantly cheaper than some other SSDs on the market, and with prices set at US $89.99 for the 240GB, US $149.99 for the 480GB and US $289.99 for the 960GB, it goes against Crucial's entry-level BX300 SSD lineup.
