Will be different from Call of Duty Elite service

As expected, Electronic Arts and DICE will no longer have to be jealous over Activision’s Call of Duty Elite subscription service and the revenue that it generates. The reason for this is they are set to announce the Battlefield Premium subscription service.

While the Battlefield Premium service will get you all of the DLC add-on content that is released for the game, it will also give you access to unique benefits. One of these benefits are special in-game items that you can’t get any other way.

For example, Battlefield Premium subscribers will get access to a one-of-a-kind Premium knife and special Black dog tags. Other premium offerings will be things such as special soldier camouflage, camouflage for weapons, special customized dog tags, and additional personalization options that will be unavailable to players who are not Battlefield Premium subscribers.

We are told that these benefits will not affect weapons balance; that said, the majority of the benefits are special offerings for the Battlefield player who wants the largest amount of customization options and is committed to the series. The Battlefield Premium service will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, so no matter what platform you play on, you will be able to take advantage of being a Battlefield Premium subscriber. No word yet if a special deal be offered for those who play on both a console system and the PC.

Five additional expansion packs for Battlefield 3 are expected between now and March 2013. With five DLC packs coming, it only makes sense that this would be a good time to roll out the Battlefield Premium service; this will be announced at the EA briefing on June 4th, just ahead of the release of the first DLC pack for Battlefield 3, which is called Close Quarters, and arrives starting June 12th.
