Neo-Geo handheld will be released

by on16 March 2012

We thought it might be a Japan-only thing

Word from our sources is that the new Neo-Geo Portable is a go, and the best news is that (besides the 20 Neo-Geo classics that will be coming with the unit) it is going to be available outside of Japan. The unit is going to be officially called the NeoGeo X, and it is being produced by Blaze under a license from SNK. You might know the name Blaze from the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive consoles that it has done previously.

The NeoGeo X will have 20 classic Neo-Geo titles, including Fatal Furies, King of Monsters, and, of course, Metal Slug. The unit will offer an SD card slot, which is believed will be used to deliver additional games to the unit; but that has yet to be confirmed.

The good news about the NeoGeo X is that it is going to be released at price much less than the $649 the Neo-Geo cost when it was released. NeoGeo X arrives in Q2, and right now we do not know how you can pre-order one; we expect more details soon, but you can get on a list to be notified by following the link below.
