UBS Investment Research believes that Apple could sell up to 28 million iPads in 2011.
The outfit noted that strong iPad sales could end up affecting sales of low-end PCs. Come to think of it, consumers can get a pretty nice PC for about the same money as an iPad, so we’re not sure why they’re going on about low-end products.
Apple doesn’t seem to be overly concerned by the prospect of iPad sales cannibalizing PC sales or MacBook sales for that matter. Apple managed to sell 3.27 million units in Q3, which is a pretty good result.
The success of the iPad is somewhat baffling. It’s basically a keyboardless smartbook which costs twice as much as a netbook and unlike most Apple products it really doesn’t have much appeal when you think about it. The iPhone is the best smartphone around, MacBooks are feature stunning design and build quality, iPods are still the best audio toys on the market, but the iPad really has none of these things going for it.
However, for some reason the iPad is still doing quite well, although it’s probably the last Apple product any reasonable consumer should buy.
