If only he had been president and he would not have faced all these questions

John McAfee, an anti-virus software creator indicted in the United States on fraud charges, has been arrested at Barcelona airport.

He was detained in Spain as he was boarding a plane trying to get to Istanbul in vain. Apparently, he was using a British passport and is being transferred to Spain’s capital Madrid to face an extradition process.

US federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment on Monday against McAfee over charges that he evaded taxes and willfully failed to file returns. We thought everyone with money in the US did that.

McAfee sought the 2016 Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election, losing to former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson. His second presidential campaign, in 2020, also ended unsuccessfully.

The arrest came shortly after the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed it had brought civil charges against McAfee, alleging he made over $23.1 million in undisclosed compensation from false and misleading cryptocurrency recommendations.

He is alleged to have earned millions in income from promoting cryptocurrencies, as well as through consulting work, speaking engagements, and selling the rights to his life story for a documentary.
