New application shops for smartphones
Following Apple
Microsoft and Nokia are to open their own stores designed to deliver programs and applications for mobile phones, following the success of the fruit themed religion of the smug, Apple.
Microsoft is planning to open an online bazaar for its Windows Mobile operating system. Redmond is also considering offering a more sophisticated version of Windows Mobile to handle online application stores better.
Microsoft launched a limited release of its "My Phone" service, which syncs information such as contacts, e-mail and appointments on your mobile to a password protected website. Meanwhile Nokia is planning a platform that allows for the central sale and distribution of programs and games for Symbian.
However Nokia has the headache of linking Mosh, Download! and Software Market into one single application store. We are expecting Microsoft and Nokia to show something off at the Mobile World Congress, although neither are saying anything about it.
