With and without heatsink

Samsung has announced the release of a 4TB version of the SSD 990 Pro series NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. Based on Samsung's latest eight-generation V-NAND technology and enhanced controller, the 4TB SSD 990 Pro hits peak performance of up to 7,450MB/s for read and 6,900MB/s for write, all at $344.99.

The Samsung 4TB SSD 990 Pro uses the same M.2 2280 form factor with PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe 2.0 interface. It is based on what Samsung calls, the eight-generation V-NAND, or in short, the latest version of 3-bit TLC NAND paired up with Samsung's own in-house controller. It packs 4GB of LPDDR4 cache. As said, the 4TB SSD 990 Pro version sequential performance peaks at 7,450MB/s for read and up to 6,900MB/s for write with random read and write hitting up to 1,600k and 1,550k IOPS. It features AES 256-bit encryption and TCG/Opal v2.0, and comes bundled with Samsung Magician Software.

The Samsung 4TB 990 Pro SSD is backed by a 5-year warranty and an endurance rating of 2400TB TBW.

The availability is expected next month, and the MSRP is $344.99 for the standard and $354.99 for the one with the heatsink. This does not sound like a bargain, mainly since the 2TB version sells for $149.
