Mediatek to invest million on infotainment solutions

by on22 November 2013

Hi there Nvidia

Ever since Tegra 2 launched Nvidia has been gaining market share in the car infotainment space, which is growing fast. However, Nvidia could start to face a bit more competition thanks to Mediatek.

Mediatek has set aside $82 million to set up an R&D centre in Hefei, China, tasked with developing infotainment chipsets. In addition, Mediatek has already formed a strong R&D team in Taiwan, estimated at over 100 people, that will also work on infotainment system development, reports Digitimes

Mediatek is the fifth biggest ARM SoC market in the world, so it should have no trouble coming up with the necessary resources and expertise to develop a few custom parts. Some critics may point out that certain Mediatek based products had horrible GPU support, but we are sure the company has already sorted everything out.
