Llano APUs in short supply due to poor yields

by on18 August 2011

Shortage should be resolved in September
According to Digitmes, AMD’s new Llano APUs are apparently suffering from shortages due to weak yields rates.
Since Llano is AMD’s first 32nm part, some teething problems were expected.

Coupled with strong demand, AMD found itself unable to ship the necessary quantities, but things are already improving. Motherboard makers have stepped up A75 board shipments and the first A55 boards are already out.

AMD hopes to resolve the shortages within weeks, in early September and motherboards vendors are ready. Also, AMD is introducing a few new 65W Llano parts, including an Athlon branded processor with no integrated graphics.

Although AMD has already included the new processors in its official price lists, they are still not available and we expect some of them to hit retail in the first week of September, provided OEMs don’t hoard them all.
