Mainstream 45nm quad-core still tough to get

Will stay that way for a while

A reader notified us that some Austrian stores got quantities of the highly anticipated Quad-core QX9450 at 2.67GHZ and 12MB of cache, but it was sold out in a matter of hours.

We are dangerously approaching the second quarter and Intel still can't get its mainstream quad-core act together.

From what we’ve learned it will be a while, probably at least until the middle of Q2 2008 before Intel is able to push as many quad-cores at 45nm as the market wants.

At least the competition can't do much to damage the image of the 45nm quad-core, as AMD simply doesn’t have its CPUs ready at this time.
