Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and Ryzen Z2G

According to the latest rumors, it appears that AMD plans to release three Ryzen Z2 APU versions for gaming handhelds, including the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and the Ryzen Z2G, all with different configurations.

Expected to launch next year, the Ryzen Z2 lineup will bring significant improvements compared to the current Ryzen Z1 series, with the flagship Ryzen Z2 Extreme packing a total of 8 CPU cores (3x Zen5+5x Zen5c) and RDNA 3.5-based GPU with 16 Compute Units.

While earlier information coming from Bilibili suggested that AMD might have cancelled the Ryzen Z2 Extreme X SKU, it appears that it was just renamed to the aforementioned Ryzen Z2 Extreme, as spotted by Videocardz.com. In addition to the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, AMD also plans The Ryzen Z2 with RDNA 3 GPU with 12 CUs, and the Ryzen Z2G, which will end up with RDNA2 GPU with 12 CUs as well.

This will bring further differentiation between chips and gaming handhelds with completely different architectures, at least when it comes to AMD. This time around, Intel will also have a Lunar Lake SKU for gaming handhelds and MSI already showcased the new Claw 8 AI+, which should also be coming in 2025.
