Claims it will clean rivals' clocks

Qualcomm has introduced its latest mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which it claims will set a new standard in smartphone performance.

While we have been hearing this sort of thing a long from Qualcomm’s marketing team  lately, this time, they have come out and claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite has the "world’s fastest mobile CPU,"

The claim has angered the Tame Apple Press because it would have to be better than Apple’s A18 Pro chip, which is found in the iPhone 16 Pro series. If it were true, that would create an external crisis for them.

At the heart of this platform lies the next-generation custom-designed Oryon CPU, a departure from the semi-custom Kryo Arm-based chips used in previous generations.

The Oryon CPU uses a 3-nanometre process. It features eight cores, comprising two prime cores and six performance cores, and can reach impressive peak speeds of 4.32 GHz.

Qualcomm further asserts that the chip includes the "industry’s largest shared cache," designed to accelerate data retrieval to unprecedented speeds. Regarding graphical capability, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has a new "Adreno" GPU, which Qualcomm describes as using a "revolutionary sliced architecture" to optimise performance and battery life.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite incorporates Qualcomm’s AI Engine with Multimodal Gen AI, a feature that enhances the chip's ability to understand and process voice, text, and images. Qualcomm suggests that this technology allows smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite to view the world through their cameras, enabling advanced AI-driven tasks such as real-time visual recognition and enhanced user interaction.

According to the press release, the Snapdragon 8 Elite represents a significant improvement over its predecessors, delivering a 45 per cent boost in CPU performance and a 44 per cent increase in power efficiency.

Additionally, it integrates the Snapdragon X80 5G modem, offering support for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G connectivity. This advanced chip will power a range of forthcoming Android devices from leading manufacturers, including Google, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and others, positioning Qualcomm as a formidable competitor in the mobile processing arena.
