Samsung Gear gets Chromecast support

Oculus is adding Chromecast support to the Samsung Gear VR headset, which means that you can share your VR experiences with your friends – assuming you want to keep them.

What it will take, bsides a Gear VR, is a compatible smartphone running the latest version of Android and the most recent update to Oculus' mobile app.

Then you hit the "Cast" button and the phone will connect to the Chromecast. Once complete, viewers will be able to see what's going on inside your VR reality and work out if they need to call the police.

While we would rank this experience as dull as watching someone else play Counterstrike, the idea is to help game developers demonstrate a product to an audience. It might be useful for those trying to carry out virtual meetings and other more office type functions.

It also makes it easier to assist someone new to VR. By seeing what a user sees without taking off the headset, you can provide accurate directions if they get lost.

According to Oculus, Gear VR is the first virtual reality device to support Chromecast and beats Google's own Daydream View. This state of affairs will not last as Google is expected to release Daydream products fairly soon.
