Flagship at Mobile World Congress 2016

Qualcomm and LG have started buzzing that something cool will happen on February 21 – the day before the Mobile World Congress starts in Barcelona. We just got a confirmation that LG plans to launch a new flagship phone.

The new phone will ship with the Snapdragon 820 which Qualcomm has scored 60 design wins with so far.

This is not the first time we are mentioning this flagship phone. The LG G5 will be company's first metal phone after a decade of plastic. Fudzilla already wrote about this specification with its 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, 5.6" QHD display with Gorilla Glass 4 and a microSD card slot.

We expect to see the Samsung Galaxy S7 launch at the same time, probably on the same day. This will come with two variants one with Samsung's own Exynos 8890 SoC and  the other with the Snapdragon 820 in some selected markets.

LG hinted to us that that the MWC event will be a phone event and did not want to say anything more than that. Last year the LG G4 was launched after the Mobile World Congress, on April 29. Our industry sources have indicated that after LG G Flex 2's  premature launch with Snapdragon 810, the company didn’t want to rush the LG G4 out. The Snapdragon 810 and 808 needed some extra time to get its thermals sorted and this is exactly why LG didn’t want to rush the LG G4.

It seems that the LG G5 is now ready and we expect that the phone to be in the shops in March.
