Huge Android botnet up and running in China

by on16 January 2013

More than a million devices affected

Insecurity experts are kindly asking Android users in China to stop downloading crap, as the country is now home to the biggest Android botnet ever.

Researchers claim the botnet is spreading through a Trojan that is affecting upwards of 7,000 apps, including Temple Run and Fishing Joy games. It appears the Trojan is spreading over unlicensed third-party app stores, which are quite big in some parts of the world.

However, warnings about third-party app stores are falling on deaf ears and the Trojan, dubbed Android.Troj.mdk, is still going strong. Users have been advised to monitor call and data logs for unusual behavior, but since we are talking about the same users who tend to download malware ridden crap from third-party app stores, we doubt they will heed the warning.
