Researcher Xuxian Jiang described the new scanner as “still nascent” and concluded that it has a detection rate of just 15.32 percent.
"Overall, among these 1,260 samples, 193 of them can be detected," Jiang wrote.
Jiang argued that third-party security apps are still necessary with Android 4.2, because they tend to work, unlike Google’s service.
