Samsung will release Ice Cream Sandwich next week

New smartphone will wipe the floor with the iPhone 4S

Samsung is to release a new smartphone based on Google's latest version of the Android operating system at an event in Hong Kong on October 19.

If it is anything like the specs we have seen it will clean the iPhone 4S's clock and make the fanboys that are queuing around the block look like even bigger twits than they are. The phone will be powered by a 1.8 GHz dual-core processor which works in combination with 2GB of onboard memory. It also shows the mobile will have a 4.6-inch super AMOLED Plus HD touch-screen and a 12 mega-pixel camera.

Samsung put off the launch of the new device based on the Ice Cream Sandwich system while the world paid tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died last week. We guess it would have been poor taste to show up its rival shortly after its co-founder died. However it does mean that there are a queue of fanboys waiting paying for an out-of-date phone which looks remarkably like their old one.
