With 64-layer V-NAND

Samsung has updated its line of portable SSDs with the new Portable SSD T5 series, which comes with somewhat smaller dimensions as well as the new 64-layer V-NAND technology.

To be available in four different capacity versions, 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB as well as featuring the new USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C interface, the new Samsung Portable SSD T5 series measures at 74x57.3x10.5mm and weighs in at 51g, making it "smaller than the average business card", at least according to Samsung.

The Portable SSD T5 series is also shock resistant, at up to 3m and offers a significant performance improvement compared to the earlier available T3 series, mostly thanks to the new USB 3.1 Gen2 interface and ASMedia ASM235CM bridge chip.

According to the specifications, the new Samsung Portable SSD T5 series offers sequential transfer speed of up to 540MB/s, which makes it up to 4.0 times faster than your average portable HDD.

In order to differentiate it a bit, Samsung decided to use two colors for the aluminum exterior, including Deep Black for 1TB and 2TB models and Alluring Blue, for 250GB and 500GB models.

The rest of the features include AES 256-bit hardware data encryption and support for Android devices with the new Samsung Portable SSD Software. The Samsung Portable SSD T5 series also ships with USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables in order to provide compatibility with most devices.

According to Samsung, the new Portable SSD T5 series is already available with a price set at US $129.99 for the 250GB model, US $199.99 for the 500GB version, US $399.99 for the 1TB model and US $799.99 for the 2TB one.
