LinkIt smart home enables inexpensive home automation

Monitor and see everything in the cloud

During the last few quarters, we heard repeatedly how everything has to be connected and that the Internet of Things (IoT) might become a $36 billon market by 2020. Home automation has to be a big part of that cake.

The MediaTek powered LinkIt board is at the hub of an inexpensive connected home automation system that monitors what is happening inside of your home.  It can even send text message based alerts. The proof of concept is called LinkedHome. It is an impressive home automation system based around a MediaTek LinkIt developer board with some additional programming and a sensor array.

The platform can use a web-based cloud service and check on a house from anywhere in the world. The focus is on security and automation. A LinkIt board based system can access many different sensors including the one that is powered by ambient light through little solar panel.  It can see if doors or windows are opened or closed. The system includes motion sensors that can track if anyone has entered your premises. You can control smart plugs via SMS or WiFi.

The home automation hub can monitor a pot plant's moisture via a separate sensor and check the temperature and humidity throughout the house. LinkIt board collects all the data from the sensors and it sends it to a phone or cloud. You can monitor your home from the palm of your hand.

We hope that someone will start bringing these devices to market as we see a great potential for home automation as these products can make our life a little bit easier.
