Following the launch of its Barts based HD 6800 series cards, AMD has released a new version of the Catalyst driver - Catalyst 10.10. Featuring support for Radeon HD 6800 series cards, as well as Radeon HD 2000, 3000, 4000 and HD 5000 series cards, Catalyst 10.10 brings quite a handful of new features and performance improvements.
The new features of Catalyst 10.10 include an introduction of AMD Catalyst Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP). This basically means that AMD Catalyst driver package will now be available in two versions, one with all the goodies that you previously had with Catalyst drivers, like Direct3D, Open GL, display driver and AMD Catalyst Control Center, and the other that has all this, plus the OpenCl driver.
The new driver also brings support for video accelearation for WMV HD video content under Windows 7, which is compatible with ATI Radeon HD 5000 series graphics cards. It also comes with Enhanced Dynamic Contrast Video controlors and AMD's HD3D Technology. The HD3D Technology brings support for Blu-ray 3D and Stereo 3D Gaming Compatibility. The Blu-ray 3D is compatible with AMD Radeon HD 6800 series and you'll need Blu-ray 3D software, 3D supported display and 3D Stereoscopic glasses. Same goes for the Stereo 3D Gaming, which is also supported on ATI HD 5000 series as well as the new AMD HD 6800 series cards.
The performance improvement list is quite long and include games like Battleforge, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, World in Conflict, Crysis: Warhead, and it is all about the HD 5000 series cards.
