Games Convention 08: Fat and overclocked

We had a chance to see and take a picture of yet another Palit Sonic card, the HD 4850 Sonic. As a part of the Sonic series this card is naturally overclocked and uses Palit's own cooling solution.

Unlike the reference HD 4850 card, this one is a dual slot card with a rather large heatsink. According to what we know, the card should end up working at 685MHz for the core and 2,000MHz for 512MB of GDDR3 memory. This card is either power hungry or Palit simply decided that the regular power connector just isn´t enough for its card, as this one comes with an 8-pin PCI-Express power connector.

In general, this looks like a good card, and the big heatsink, 80mm fan in combination with dual heatpipes should keep the card's temperatures at bay while keeping the noise at minimum level.
