According to Jon Peddie research AMD has gained some market share from both Intel and Nvidia in Q3 2008 and it looks that the red boys are in recovering road.

AMD market share in notebook GPU market is at 20.9 percent up from 17.9 percent from Q2 2008 while Nvidia dropped from 23.6 percent in Q2 2008 to 21.8 percent in Q3 2008.

If we look at the Q4 2007 scores AMD was at 18.3 percent, Nvidia had massive 26.2 percent of the market while Intel had 53.9 percent. In Q1 2008 AMD was down to 17.4 percent, Intel was at 52.9 percent and Nvidia gained some market share to 27 percent.

Intel had its highest ever market share in Q2 2008 and got up to 57.1 percent and in Q3 2008 it was slightly down to 56.2 percent.

We believe that AMD might have some more gains in Q4 2008 since it has a dominant product with 55nm and lower thermal dissipation to Nvidia, while Intel will remain Uber dominant in this market with its Intel’s integrated.

Jon also told the word that notebook chips shipment reached 49.4 million unit or 44.4 percent of the market. He also believes that the Q4 2008 might even be flat to Q3 2008 as everyone is afraid of spending due the economic crisis.
