20 million units in fiscal 2016

Sony has quite an aggressive forecast as the company plans to sell 20 million PlayStation 4 units in fiscal 2016. This should represent a healthy 8.3 percent increase year over year.

A year ago, in fiscal 2015, Sony sold 17.7 million consoles while in 2014 the company managed to move 14.8 million. Sony should have passed the magical 40 million PlayStation 4 console threshold a few months back, and with addition 20 million sales, the company might even be able to get over 60 million mark by end of its fiscal 2016 that happens on March 31. 2017. In November 2015, Sony surpassed 30 million mark

It is not only hardware that makes some profits for Sony, it seems that the company is doing well with software sales too. Sony managed to sell 80 million PlayStation 3 consoles by November 2013, seven years after its initial launch.

With this in mind, some analysts believe that PlayStation 4 has a big chance of selling over 100 million units before the end of the lifecycle but this will definitely take at least a year or a few after 2017.

PlayStation VR might have a chance to quickly become the number one wired solution for the dedicated VR, and it might actually boost the PlayStation 4 sales too.
