Nvidia's flaming shield has new "feature"

by on14 September 2015

Released with a broken hard-drive

Nvidia, which is already reeling from having to recall its Shield consoles for getting a little too hot now has another problem.

HDD-bearing versions of its SHIELD box are suffering from bad problems with its hard drives and it is recalling defective units.

The Tame Apple Press (TAP) is beside itself with joy as Nvidia had just been pointing out what a compete turkey Apple's TV is in comparison with the Shield.

TAP can point out safely that while the Apple TV has out-of-date graphics, and is probably no use to god or man, at least it does not catch fire and its hard-drives work.

We will have to take its word for that.

Nvidia's Shield had a much better 500 GB hard drive which did put it in among some of the top consoles in the market.

Of course, Nvidia claims that less than one percent of SHIELD Pro owners are affected by the hardware defect. The Tame Apple Press is not buying that of course. Only Apple is allowed to claim a small number of users are effected by problems when it turns out that it is probably all of them.

The problems are specific. They include failing to upgrade to firmware 1.4 to some corruption in the Android TV interface.

Apple meanwhile is trying to claim that its god-awful Apple TV will replace the Xbox, Nintendo Wii and PS4. Apparently, this is because the remote can be used like a

Nintendo Wii and its internal mobile phone chip is far superior to AMD's console chip. Most Apple users will believe that though – but they will have a point. At least the Apple TV does not catch fire and its small hard drive still works.
