DirectX 12 will run most current GPUs just fine

Latest GPUs only needed to unlock the full potential

Microsoft said during the Windows 10 demo that most current graphics cards or those defined as DirectX 11/11.1 cards will take advantage of a great number of the DirectX 12 features, but if you want to unlock he full potential of DirectX 12, you will need a graphics card that is a true DirectX 12 card with a DirectX 12 capable GPU.

Microsoft didn't share much about DirectX 12 other than they will have more specifics coming at GDC. Microsoft said that it was working with DirectX 12 card vendors to insure that most modern PC gaming hardware will work well with DirectX 12.

We have to question how this transition will work. We have to wonder if this is going to be another one of these deals where the hardware and DirectX 12 is far ahead of the software. We have been talking to a number of software developers who tell us that they doubt that there will be a rush to lock new titles coming down to only DX12 cards. We just don't see this happening in the short term. Not enough users will have a DX12 qualified card that it will be the right choice.
