Next-Gen Diablo 3 pushed

by on17 July 2013

360 & PS3 version still on track

News from the kingdom that is Blizzard is that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Diablo are on track and should release on September 3rd as planned. This is good news!

Now for the bad news. The Next-Gen versions of Diablo 3 for the PlayStation 4 (and we would suspect the Xbox One, as well, at some point in the future) will not arrive this year. Instead, you can expect to see Diablo 3 for the Next-Gen console systems in 2014. The developer has been clear that no announcement of an Xbox One version has been made, and so far Next-Gen for them only refers to the PlayStation 4.

The reason for the delay is that apparently the Diablo 3 console team just got its PS4 development kits to the actual conversion to the PS4 that isn’t even started yet. In addition, rumors suggest that the development team wants to customize the experience on the PS4 by taking full advantage of the DualShock 4 controller’s touchpad, and also use the new Share button.

While the September 3rd release of Diablo 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has been a given for some time, the developer never promised a fall release for the PlayStation 4 version; people just assumed that it would be ready to arrive yet this year, but this is apparently not the case. Could be yet another reason to hang onto your current generation console if didn’t already play Diablo 3 on the PC.
