Disc release expected before the holidays
With the announcement of NBA Elite 11 now being delayed, Electronic Arts developers are said to be re-working the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA Jam for release. Originally, the NBA Jam release on these two platforms would be provided as a download code reward for those who purchased NBA Elite 11, but it would not include the “Remix Tour” mode that the Wii disc version offered.

The latest word that we are hearing is that you can still expect NBA Jam to arrive for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 before the holidays. The version of NBA Jam that will be released on these platforms will add back in the “Remix Tour” mode and should offer the same content as the Wii release, if all goes well. Of course, the developers still have to get the changes and additions finished so that the title can be released.

Whispers that we hear indicate that EA will scrap the download release of NBA Jam for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and instead go for a low-cost disc release. While no confirmation has been made by EA yet, it is expected that the disc release will go for $50 when it arrives before the holidays. This actually isn’t that much of a surprise on the pricing, since the Wii version is also going to be sold for $50.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will still support at least basic online play, which is something that remains absent from the Wii release of the game. While no release date has been given (beyond saying that it will arrive before the holidays), our sources seem to think that a late December release is likely, with December 21st being thrown out there as a possibility. We will have to see what happens, but we know that the developers are scrambling to get it together.

Look for EA to make an official announcement in the next couple of weeks so that buyers can get their pre-orders in.
