HP Envy 14 Spectre up for preorder

by on12 January 2012

Impressive, but pricey

A few days ago HP released a teaser for its new Envy 14 Spectre ultrabook, which was touted as one of the best ultrabooks to date.

It is an impressive piece of kit to say the least. HP opted for a hi res 1600x900 14-inch screen neatly tucked away behind a layer of Gorilla Glass. However, the size and Gorilla Glass are not what sets the Spectre apart from other ultrabooks. The screen features a tiny bezel, allowing HP to pack it into a very compact chassis, so the Spectre ends up with a footprint typical for 13-inch models and it measures just 12.88" x 8.7" x 0.79". Interestingly, HP used Gorilla Glass on the palm rests as well.

The Spectre will be available with a choice of ultra-low voltage Core i5 and Core i7 processors and 4GB or 8GB of RAM. HP also promises speedy performance from 128GB or 256GB SSDs used in the Spectre, describing it as an “instant on” ultrabook. It features USB 3.0, NFC, HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity and weighs in at under 4lbs and offers up to 9 hours of battery life.

HP will start shipping the Spectre on February 8 and the cheapest version will cost a saucy $1,399. You can check out the product page and make your reservation here.
