Blogger reveals how creepy life is at Google
Can't see
him staying long
A blogger who has just started work at the search outfit Google is revealing how creepy life is working for the outfit.
Tim Bray, who worked for Sun, said that he knew Google enveloped employees but he wanted to blog his Google experience "while my eyes remain fresh." While Bray's comments are friendly those reading them can't help but feel that the Googleplex is reminiscent to the totalitarian systems depicted in the movie THX 1138.
Looking at it Bray wakes up in his nondescript Google apartment in Mountain View, where he rooms with "a taciturn Czech" who does not talk about his "data security" work. He uses a Google Bus, a Google Wi-Fi on his way to work, has breakfast at a Google cafe, eats Google bacon drinks Google coffee.
Bray talks about how tough the hiring standards are. He then grabs a Google Prius to buy himself a new camera at Best Buy. Dinner is taken with some office-mates on a picnic table outside a Google café. Even when he does get to go home he checks his "Google email on his Google phone."
It all seems pretty creepy to us. (Why do I not feel sorry for him? sub.ed.)
