It looks like we were right and motherboard sales are
going down the pan.
We got a press release from Asustek Computer which
confirms that sales in Europe were really weak and it has reduced its own-brand
motherboard shipments target from 1.9 million units to 1.75 million units.
However that might just be Asustek. Its rival Gigabyte
said that it is on track to ship 1.7 million own-brand motherboards in March,
while Micro-Star and Elitegroup Computer Systems each expect to ship 700,000
own-brand units.
It is unclear why Europe's motherboard market is on such
a go slow. It seems that after the recession European punters are not building
their own systems.
