Redmond released an updated Windows Mobile 6.5 Software
Development Kit only to pull it a few days later.
On January 22, Microsoft made the Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK
available for download, but now has pulled it claiming that it needed further
testing. Now it turns out that the SDK included Windows Mobile
6.5.3 bits which Redmond does not want anyone to see yet.
Effectively it means that after a long list of rumors,
scattered appearances and leaked builds, the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 actually was
shown off and no one realised it until Microsoft pulled it.
The kit brought around emulator images of Windows Mobile
6.5.3. Microsoft released Windows Mobile 6.5 to manufacturing in
summer 2009 and the first phones running the operating system appeared in
October.
Redmond is expected to show off the new version at the
Mobile World Congress event next month in Barcelona, Spain, and talk about
Windows Mobile 7.
