Chipmaker Intel has come up with a cunning plan to get rid of those pesky keyboards and mice and control computers using users' brainwaves.

Researchers hope to harness brainwaves by sticking sensors in, guess what, our brains. Intel boffins claim there is no reason to fear an Orwellian future, as consumers will just want the implants and the freedom they offer. If you get sick of it, just put some tin foil on your head and you'll be as good as new.

"If you told people 20 years ago that they would be carrying computers all the time, they would have said, 'I don't want that. I don't need that.' Now you can't get them to stop. There are a lot of things that have to be done first but I think (implanting stuff into human brains) is well within the scope of possibility," said Andrew Chien, VP of research and director of future technologies at Intel Labs.

The great upshot of having the implant(s) would be the ability to control multiple devices without getting near them. Users should be able to answer their phone and mute their PC with no physical effort, and we all how hard it can be to push two buttons.

Let's just hope Intel won't use Nokia or Apple batteries for its implants. If you're wondering why, try putting an egg in a microwave.
