Stockholders meet today to try again

AMD stockholders
are due to vote on the proposed Foundry spin off deal later today, following last week's vote in which AMD couldn't muster enough support for its plans.

Although the majority of stockholders voted for the joint venture with Abu Dhabi's Advanced Technology Investment Co, there was to few stockholders present, and they failed to reach the 50 percent quorum. Market watchers believed the spin off was a done deal, and last week AMD's stock plummeted by as much as 15 percent on the news.

Following the drop, AMD has piped down its expectations and it's a bit less optimistic this time around, although the company believes getting enough support is just a matter of time. So, AMD is confident it will get stockholder support, but it's just not sure when. Although there's still plenty of time, the issue is just making the company look bad.

Analysts believe there's absolutely no reason why stockholders should vote against the deal, and claim  AMD is to blame for last week's cock up, as it failed to provide major stockholders with enough time to make up their minds.
