Amazon Prime Video becomes standalone product

$2.99 for 6 months then $ / x €5.99

Amazon has just released its Prime Video as a standalone product that is immediately available in more than 200 countries. This is Amazon’s way to fight off Netflix's world dominance.

This comes just days after the report that The Grand Tour, the reboot of Top Gear is its most successful show and probably the most important business win for Amazon. The Grand Tour features Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May and claims to be the top-rated TV show on IMDb with an overall rating of 9.4 and over 20,000 votes.

Other popular TV shows from Amazon include The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and Tumble Leaf. The list leaves a lot of space for improvement as Netflix definitely has more successful TV shows and movies.

Amazon launched PrimeVideo.com website for global access as Amazon prime shopping, and the service is not really available around the world. It is  limited to a few big countries including USA, Germany, France, Italy, UK and Japan and Austria.

The real catch is that Amazon’s affordable 2.99 Euro is not going to last forever, it is the price for the first six months and it plans to jack up the price up to 5.99 Euro. At 5.99 Euro Amazon is getingt dangerously close to Netflix which offers much more content.

It's not all plain sailing. A few days ago we reported that everything isn't working to plan on every platform - in this case, Roku.
