When motion is triggered, the camera kicks into action and sends a beep to an app on your mobile phone. While there is not yet an outdoor camera available, we believe that this will be introduced shortly. OSes supported are Android and IoS.
Don Shulsinger, VP of sales and marketing, and a co-founder of Immedia, said that at the beginning of last year, the company decided to appeal to the general market with its Blink product.
Immedia is a fabless semiconductor company that has designed its own SoC for the units, which measure motion, and include video, temperature monitoring, and live viewing using the system. The chips are made by Taiwanese foundry SMIC.Shulsinger said that the company intends to include mobile technology as well as wi-fi capability next year.
The cameras themselves run on two standard AA batteries, and give a life of up to two years, he said. He claimed that the company has sold 250,000 cameras since January. The units are available through Amazon, and in the UK, a three camera system costs £260, with additional cameras costing £89 each.
Shulsinger believes this pricing considerably undercuts both the competition and dedicated more traditional operating systems.
