Nicked 44,000 credit card numbers

The US Justice Department has arrested a Dutch hacker for coordinating the theft of roughly 44,000 credit card numbers. Although they have not released many details, it appears that he may have run a large, recently-shuttered forum dedicated to cyber fraud. He hacked into stolen card data taken from other fraud forums.

David Benjamin Schrooten, 21, appeared in Seattle federal court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud, access device fraud and conspiracy. Schrooten was accused of running Web sites that sold stolen credit card numbers in bulk.

The court was told that Schrooten was extradited to the United States after being arrested in Romania. Another man Christopher A. Schroebel of Maryland, 21, was an accomplice and also was charged. Schrooten was known in the hacking community as “Fortezza.” Fortezza was a big name and had a forum called Kurupt.su so US coppers are is probably feeling pretty smug.
