Microsoft lays off more staff

by on07 July 2010

Cutting continues
It seems that the recession is still not over in Microsoft and Steve Ballmer is taking another hatchet to staff numbers.

The Wall Street Journal said that the numbers of job cuts is unknown but is likely to be “small”. Quoting a deep throat in the company, the WSJ said that the job cuts are likely to be below the 5,000 cuts announced last year. The planned layoffs are expected to be dispersed throughout the company, the paper said.

Microsoft is not commenting on the news at the moment. However it is unusual that an IT company would make any job cuts at the moment. Most companies are hiring now that the recession is seen as being over.

Either Microsoft knows something that the rest of the industry doesn't or it still sees the need for restructuring even after the major surgery it carried out last year.
