Mobile phone share

Search engine Google has bought a Finnish startup specialising in letting friends use mobile telephones to share what they are doing.

Jaiku is a social networking and mini-messaging service that enables people to keep track of each others' activities while on the move using curt missives sent to mobile telephones. Google is believed to be targeting the service for its much talked about "gphone" using an open-source software platform tailored to its online services.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In its quest for more mobile services, Google has so far bought Zingku, a startup company that streamlines sharing pictures, messages and more via smart phones.
