Asus rolls out new fast 27-inch 1440p ROG monitor with Freesync Premium Pro

by on02 April 2020

With 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and DisplayHDR 400

Asus has released a new gaming Republic of Gamers curved monitor, which will carry AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro badge and come with 1440p resolution VA panel, with 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, high contrast ratio and meet DisplayHDR 400 specification, the Asus ROG Strix XG27WQ.

As noted, the Asus ROG Strix XG27WQ is a curved monitor and uses a 1500R curved VA panel with a 2560x1440 resolution. The panel has a 165Hz refresh rate, HDR (HDR-10), has 1ms GTG response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio, and 450cd/m2 maximum brightness, which is more than enough to get it the DispalyHDR 400 badge.

The rest of the specifications include ELMB, which is Asus' own extreme low motion blur, have 178°/178°, and 125 percent sRGB / 92 percent DCI-P3 color saturation. It uses a non-glare panel and has two HDMI 2.0 and one DisplayPort 1.2 inputs, as well as a 3.5mm audio, and USB hub, with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports (USB 3.0 Type-B input).

The ROG Strix XG27WQ comes with Asus' standard stand which has ROG logo projection, Asus Aura Sync RGB lighting at the back and supports tilt, swivel, and height adjustments. Bear in mind that it does support VESA wall mounting with 100x100mm mount.

FreeSync Premium Pro badge is the top tier

AMD has recently differentiated its FreeSync certification in three categories, standard FreeSync, FreeSync Premium, and FreeSync Premium Pro. In order to meet the certification, the FreeSync Premium Pro monitor needs at least 120Hz refresh rate at minimum FHD resolution, support for low framerate compensation (LFC), have low latency in both SDR and HDR, and needs to support for HDR.

Still no price and availability date

Unfortunately, Asus did not reveal a price nor the availability date, but Gigabyte is already selling a monitor based on the same specifications as a part of its Aorus gaming lineup, the CV27Q-SA, which is available at Newegg.com for $379.99, so Asus' will probably match the price with its ROG counterpart.
