Jim pointed out that the  Ryzen 7 launch caused Intel to change its HEDT pricing strategy.

Intel mysteriously launched a Core i7 7820X at $599 and dropped the eight core HEDT price from $1,089, a Core i7 6900K launched in May of 2016.

Threadripper was announced in late May and Intel launched Core i9 7900X at $999, a massive drop from $1,723 - the price of the Core i7 6950 launched in May 2016. It looks like  Intel’s HEDT group changed quite a bit as a reaction to things to come.

Ryzen Threadripper 1950X has sixteen cores, 32 threads and basic clock of 3.4GHz. The boost clock gets this sixteen core beast to 4.0 GHz. The platform has 64 PCIe lanes and 4 channel DDR4 memory support. It is unlocked and built for overclocking. The target group are enthusiasts and creators, and Threadripper 1950X is going to sell for $999.

Based on Cinebench nT, it outperforms Core i9 7900X by 38 percent.

Ryzen Threadripper 1920X has 12 cores, 24 threads and basic clock of 3.5 GHz. The boost clock gets this runner up to 4.0 GHz. The platform has 64 PCIe lanes and 4 channel DDR4 memory support. It is unlocked and built for overclocking. The target group are enthusiasts and creators, and Threadripper 1920X is going to sell for $799.

In Cinebench nT it is 11 percent faster than $999 priced Core i9 7900X.

There is a third Threadripper 1900X and this is an eight core and sixteen treads CPU with 3.8GHz base clock and 4.0 boost. This one will sell for a very attractive $549.

There will be boards from Asrock, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI and the Threadripper comes with a water cooling retention that is compatible with Asetek based 20+ popular water coolers. There will be five air coolers from Arctic, Vienna based Noctua and Cooler master.

Threadripper 1950X and 1920X will be available starting with August 10, while the 1900X becomes available in August 31. The preorders start today and Alienware is exclusive OEM who is already taking pre orders on these amazing CPUs.
