Relationship still intact

Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek has denied reports that it suspended SoC shipments to Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi. The report emerged yesterday and unfortunately we carried it.

Late yesterday, Xiaomi issued a statement on its Sina Weibo microblog, saying that the original report, published by Sina Weibo, was false. The company said it intends to "keep an open mind" and continue to work with quality suppliers to build smarphones that offer good value for money.

MediaTek also responded to the claims, saying that its relationship with Xiaomi remains "normal". The company did not talk about the specifics, but noted that it will continue to provide chips based on their customer's roadmaps, reports Want China Times.

Earlier this year Xiaomi became leading smartphone vendor in China, overtaking Samsung in the process. MediaTek is the world's second largest phone SoC supplier and it is the leader in the Chinese market.
