Mobile Sandy Bridge is 22 percent smaller

Intel is
already telling its partners that its next generation mobile architecture codenamed Sandy Bridge should end up 22 percent smaller than the current 32nm Westmere generation.

This is quite a success and this means that Sandy Bridge should achieve higher clocks at the same TDP values, which can imply that the next generation will be even faster. The cost of materials and platforms will shrink due to the smaller size of the CPU.

Intel says that its Sandy Bridge package is 22 percent reduced in x,y and z axis and new Intel AVX instructions and improved battery life will also find its way in the new and yet smaller packaging.

Let me also remind you that Sandy Bridge, even though it is a 32nm part, should be a huge step forward simply as this is the first CPU and GPU, Fusion processor from Intel and it tends to come around the same time as AMD’s Llano Fusion CPU meets GPU chip.
