170MB/s read 32MB/s write

We stumbled upon Intel’s specification for a value SSD drive simply called X25-X and we can tell you that it aims for reading speeds of 170MB/s and write of more modest 35MMB/s.

For the operation the drive needs 90mW of power when it runs and 75 mW when it sits in idle mode. You can expect that read latency should be around 65 microseconds.

The drive is supposed to bring competitive performance at a lower total cost of ownership. The X25M series still leads the way with its higher price, but it features 250MB/s read and 70MB/s write speeds.

The drive should start shipping in Q4, so one of the weeks before Xmas and it will ship as a 2.5 inch MLC drive with 40GB capacity. It is based on 34nm Flash memory that enables the smaller price and more competitive performance.
