But you’ll need two

Intel is still working hard on its Skulltrail system, and this dual socket gaming rig is supposed to see the light of day sometime in Q1 2008.

We are not sure if Intel can keep its promise and send sample units in late December, but we know that the CPU will actually cost US$1,490 if you buy a dozen of them.

The Skulltrail needs two CPUs, so you will have to spend US$3,000 just to get them both. For $1,490 you will get a single Core 2 Extreme processor QX9775 at 3.2GHz with 12MB cache, 1600MHz FSB in socket LGA771.

This will probably be the fastest gaming system on the market for a while.
